PulpFest

Make Friday the 13th Your Lucky Day!

Weird Tales 31-11Friday the 13th and black cats don’t have to be unlucky! I’m not sure you can convince this young lady of that fact, but if she realized that PulpFest 2015 would be starting in exactly five months, she certainly would think that her luck had changed. Heck, she might even die happy!

PulpFest will start in five short months. Thursday, August 13th is not that far away. That’s the date when “Summer’s Great Pulp Con” will start at the Hyatt Regency in beautiful downtown Columbus, Ohio. The convention’s dealers’ room in the spacious Regency Ballroom will be open from 6 PM to 10 PM for early-bird shopping. PulpFest members who will be staying at the Hyatt for three nights will be admitted free of charge. For those members who will unfortunately be staying elsewhere, early-bird privileges can be purchased for an additional $25 (if prepaid) or $30 (at the door). Click the registration button below our home page banner to learn how to register for the convention.

PulpFest 2015 will also have a full slate of programming on Thursday, beginning at 8 PM. We’ll have presentations on sports pulps; detective and western heroes of the Thrilling Group of pulp magazines; The Shadow; and Street & Smith comics. We’ll also be screening a couple of films inspired by the work of horror master H. P. Lovecraft. Click the schedule button near the right end of our home page banner to learn more about our programming plans.

The Hyatt Regency Columbus is an extremely popular venue for conventions, including the World Fantasy Convention and the highly popular Origins Game Fair. That’s just one of many reasons that PulpFest has selected the Hyatt as its host hotel. Click the hotel button below our home page banner to learn more about this great venue.

This August, PulpFest will be sharing downtown Columbus with Matsuricon, a gathering of Japanese anime and pop culture enthusiasts. Although many of these fans will be coming for a single day, there will be a good number who will be staying at the Hyatt Regency as well as other hotels in downtown Columbus. Therefore, we are urging all of our members to book their hotel rooms for PulpFest 2015 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The earlier you place your room reservation for this year’s PulpFest, the greater chance you have of landing a room. Your organizing committee is working with Matsuricon to help both gatherings have a great and fun-filled weekend.

You can reserve a room at the Hyatt Regency at the special convention rate of $116 per night plus tax, which includes one free parking pass and free Wi-Fi, if you do so by July 1, 2015. Additional cars will be charged at the discounted rate of $10 overnight with in/out privileges. Matsuricon members will be paying nearly twenty dollars more for rooms and parking.

There are two ways to place a reservation. You can book a room online by clicking here, an electronic reservations interface customized for PulpFest attendees. Alternately, click the “book a room” button on our home page. You can also call 1-888-421-1442 to book a room by telephone. However, be sure to mention PulpFest 2015 to get the special convention rate. By staying at the Hyatt Regency, you’ll help to ensure the convention’s success.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning now to attend PulpFest 2015 and join hundreds of pulp fiction fans at the pop-culture center of the universe. We look forward to seeing you in August in beautiful, downtown Columbus.

(In 1927 C. C. Senf began to paint covers and draw pen and ink story illustrations for WEIRD TALES, an innovative pulp magazine that featured otherworldly and macabre subjects. He drew hundreds of black-and-white interior story illustrations, and he painted forty-five covers for “The Unique Magazine,” the last of which appeared on the July 1932 issue. Pictured above is the November 1931 issue. Just a few days before the 125th anniversary of the author’s birth, PulpFest 2015 will salute H. P. Lovecraft and WEIRD TALES, the magazine that published the bulk of his fictional work. Many thanks to David Saunders of The Field Guide to Wild American Pulp Artists for helping us to keep our facts straight.)
