PulpFest

Our Newest Sponsor

For a number of years, PulpFest has accepted sponsors for its website. Organizations such as Galaxy Press and EssayScribes.com have made significant contributions to the convention through their sponsorships.

In March of this year, PulpFest added its newest sponsor, AbeBooks.com, the online marketplace for books. Millions of brand new books, used books, rare books, and out-of-print books are offered for sale from thousands of booksellers around the world through the AbeBooks websites. Readers can find bestsellers, collectors can find rare books, students can find new and used textbooks, and treasure hunters can find long-lost books.

AbeBooks is a company with a passion for books. Booksellers love AbeBooks for helping them to sell books to buyers around the globe – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Buyers love AbeBooks for helping them to find and purchase books from its vast online inventory, stretching around the world with six international sites. The AbeBooks blog, Reading Copy, is a valuable daily source of company and book-related news.

PulpFest is extremely pleased to welcome AbeBooks as a sponsor. Not only has AbeBooks added their name to our growing list of web site sponsors — you’ll find their logo on our home page — they have also asked to sponsor this year’s PulpFest name tags and program guides. Additionally, AbeBooks will be offering two hardcover copies of Mike Ashley’s SCIENCE FICTION REBELS, the fourth volume in the author’s History of the Science-Fiction Magazine as door prizes at the July convention. Covering the period from 1981 to 1990, Ashley’s book charts a significant revolution throughout science fiction, much of which was driven by the alternative press, and by new editors at the leading magazines. The period saw the emergence of the cyberpunk movement, and the drive for, what the late David Hartwell called, “The Hard SF Renaissance.”

Amazing Stories 31-05Published by the Liverpool University Press as part of its Liverpool Science Fiction Texts series, SCIENCE FICTION REBELS retails for over $100. PulpFest will be randomly selecting two members present at this year’s convention to receive hardbound copies of Mike Ashley’s new work of science fiction scholarship. An expert in popular culture, Mike has specialized in the history of science fiction and fantasy for over thirty years. He is the author and editor of over sixty books that in total have sold over a million copies worldwide. His seven-part series “The AMAZING Story” ran on the PulpFest website during February and March 2016 and proved to be tremendously popular.

AbeBooks remains a company with a passion for books as well as a “passion for pulps!” Be sure to watch for the AbeBooks banner at PulpFest 2016 and you may be one of our two lucky winners who take home a copy of Mike Ashley’s SCIENCE FICTION REBELSWe hope to see you at “Summer’s AMAZING Pulp Con,” taking place from Thursday evening, July 21 and running through Sunday afternoon, July 24 in the Columbus, Ohio Arena district at the Hyatt Regency hotel and the city’s spacious convention center. You’ll have a FANTASTIC time!

(Leo Morey’s cover to the May 1931 issue of AMAZING STORIES also served as the cover art for the first volume in Mike Ashley’s acclaimed “The History of the Science-Fiction Magazine.” Originally published by Liverpool University Press in 2000, Ashley’s book is long out of print. Copies however, can still be located via AbeBooks.com.)
