An Early-Bird Sale!

Amazing Stories 41-11 backThe Hyatt Regency Columbus is sold out of rooms for July 21 through July 23. At www.columbusconventions.com/thearea.php, you’ll find a list of area hotels courtesy of the Greater Columbus Convention CenterAlternately, you can search for a room at tripadvisor or a similar website to find a hotel near the convention.

Thanks so much to everyone who has reserved a room at our host hotel. By staying at the Hyatt Regency, you’ve helped to ensure the convention’s success. We appreciate your support. Continue reading and you’ll find out how we’ll be thanking you.

On Thursday, July 21 “Summer’s AMAZING Pulp Con” will start at the Hyatt Regency and the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Our dealers’ room in the Battelle South exhibition hall on the third floor of the convention center will be open from 6 PM to 9 PM for early-bird shopping. PulpFest members who will be staying at the Hyatt for three nights will be admitted free of charge during our early-bird hours. It’s just one of our ways to thank you for your support.

But wait! In addition to free early bird shopping on Thursday, we’ll be holding a drawing at the close of our annual business meeting on Saturday, July 23. Two lucky convention attendees who prepay for their membership, book a room for three nights at our host hotel, and choose to attend our business meeting will receive free memberships to PulpFest 2017. You must provide proof of your stay at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and be present at the drawing to receive your prize.

We sure wish that everyone would choose to stay at our host hotel, but realize that is not going to happen, particularly this year. Although the deadline to reserve a room at the Hyatt Regency to receive the special convention rate was supposed to be June 30, 2016, the hotel has sold out. PulpFest 2016 is packing them in!

For those members who will unfortunately be staying elsewhere, we’d like to give you a taste of what you’ll be missing. So for the rest of June, you can purchase an early-bird membership for an additional $10. You must register for PulpFest 2016 by midnight on Friday, July 1 to get this deal. After that date, early-bird privileges will be available for an additional $25 (if prepaid) or $30 (at the door). Click the registration button below our home page banner to learn how to register for the convention.

And don’t forget, you may even wind up being one of our lucky door prize winners.  Convention sponsor AbeBooks will be offering two hardcover copies of Mike Ashley’s SCIENCE FICTION REBELS, the fourth volume in the author’s History of the Science-Fiction Magazine as door prizes at this year’s PulpFest.

In addition to early bird shopping, PulpFest 2016 will also have a programming slate on Thursday, July 21, beginning at 9:10 PM. We’ll have presentations on two of the superheroes of the pulps — The Whisperer and The Skipper — as well as a presentation on the importance of H. G. Wells to the development of both science fiction and AMAZING STORIES, the first continuing science fiction magazine, ninety years old in 2016. Click the schedule button below our home page banner to learn more about our programming plans.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning now to attend PulpFest 2016 and join hundreds of pulp fiction fans at the pop-culture center of the universe. You’ll have a FANTASTIC time! We look forward to seeing you in July in beautiful, downtown Columbus.

(In PULP ART, published by Gramercy Books in 1997, Robert Lesser writes: “Frank R. Paul’s back covers, such as “Golden City of Titan” . . . are masterpieces of science fiction art. The artist’s training in architecture shows in all his work, but the style is unique. There is a two-dimensional flatness, as if the Italian Renaissance had never introduced perspective. Paul’s paintings border on primitive art; they are charming, and almost childlike in their imagination and sense of wonder.” Paul’s “Golden City of Titan” ran on the back cover of the November 1941 issue of AMAZING STORIESPulpFest 2016 will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of AMAZING — the first continuing science fiction magazine — at this year’s convention.)
