Saturday Night Auction

Aug 2, 2019 by

PulpFest auction bannerPulpFest is known for its enjoyable auctions. Over the last few years, PulpFest has sold three major collections of pulps, books, fanzines, and related materials. This year’s auction will be a bit quieter.

Our Saturday night auction will feature 25 lots remaining from the collections of the late Woody Hagadish and Albert Tonik. Click here for descriptions of these lots. You’ll also find photographs of selected lots below.

In addition to our estate lots, all members of PulpFest 2019 can submit items to sell at auction. All auction lots must have a $20 minimum value. If you plan to offer an auction lot with a reserve price, your reserve must be $50 or more. PulpFest reserves the right to reject any auction material that does not meet our standards. The convention charges sellers 10% of the selling price for anything sold at auction.

To submit material to the PulpFest 2019 Saturday night auction, look for our auction banner. It will be located at Mike Chomko’s table. That’s where all of our 2019 members can bring materials that they’d like to place into our Saturday night auction. Your material must be submitted to PulpFest prior to 2 PM on the day of the auction.

After all the lots have been processed, there will be an auction preview, running from 4:15 – 4:45 PM on Saturday, August 17. There will also be a last minute preview running from 9:30 – 9:45 PM. Our auction banner will be outside the preview room to direct the curious to where they can view the auction lots.

The Saturday night auction will begin at 9:45 PM on August 17 in the PulpFest programming hall.

If you have questions concerning the auction or are interested in submitting an absentee bid, please contact programming and marketing director Mike Chomko at mike@pulpfest.com or 2217 W. Fairview Street, Allentown, PA 18104-6542.

PulpFest 2019 will take place from August 15 through August 18 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry — just north of Pennsylvania’s “Steel City.” You can register for the convention by clicking one of the Register buttons on our home page. And don’t forget to book a room at the DoubleTree. You can reserve a room by calling 1-800-222-8733. Please be sure to mention PulpFest when placing your reservation in order to receive any convention special deals that may still be available. There is ample free parking surrounding the hotel.

(PulpFest advertising director Bill Lampkin designed the convention’s auction banner. It is based on a colorized photo of a June 26, 1942 magazine display rack from Yreka, California.)

Saturday Night Auction

Jun 29, 2018 by

PulpFest is very well known for its auctions. This year, due to an abundance of material, the convention will host not one, but two auctions. The first will be held on Friday, July 27, beginning at 10:05 PM. Our second auction will take place on Saturday, July 28. It will also begin at 10:05 PM.

Our Saturday night auction will again feature material from the collections of the late Woody Hagadish and Larry Latham. There will also be signed letters and post cards from pulp artists and writers written to the late Albert Tonik.

The auction will also include nearly 400 copies of WESTERN STORY MAGAZINE, a selection of sports pulps and Martin Goodman’s Red Circle magazines, a collection of letters from Popular Publications founder Henry Steeger, a painting by paperback cover artist Rudy Nappi, long and nearly complete runs of science fiction digests such as ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION, FANTASTIC, and IMAGINATIVE TALESquantities of science fiction digests from the United Kingdom including NEBULA, NEW WORLDS SCIENCE FICTION, and SCIENCE FANTASY, and a selection of western pulps such as DIME WESTERN, WESTERN ACTION, REAL WESTERN, and 10 STORY WESTERN MAGAZINE.

Click here for a look at the preliminary catalog for our Saturday Night Auction.

Please note that we are still working on the Hagadish collection and may be adding more items — most likely, early science fiction paperbacks — to the list. Keep watching www.pulpfest.com for any revisions to our catalogs. If time allows, we also hope to post a few images featuring material from our 2018 auctions.

In addition to more than 300 estate lots, all members of PulpFest 2018 can submit items to sell at auction. All auction lots must have a $20 minimum value.
