Book a Room at the Hyatt Regency

Jun 25, 2016 by

Amazing Stories 41-11 back Thursday, July 21 is fast approaching. That’s the date when “Summer’s AMAZING Pulp Con” will start at the Hyatt Regency and the Greater Columbus Convention Center in beautiful downtown Columbus, Ohio. Although there are many hotels where you can stay during PulpFest 2016, there are plenty more reasons that you should stay at the beautiful Hyatt Regency. Of course, the most important reason will be that you’ll be helping the convention to meet its substantial costs by staying at its host hotel.

The PulpFest dealers’ room in the spacious Battelle South exhibition hall on the third floor of the convention center will be open from 6 PM to 9 PM for early-bird shopping. PulpFest members who will be staying at the Hyatt for three nights will be admitted free of charge during our early-bird hours. For those members who will unfortunately be staying elsewhere, early-bird privileges can be purchased for an additional $10 through the end of June. The price will increase to $25 on July 2 and to $30 on July 21. Click the registration button below our home page banner to learn how to register for the convention.

But wait! In addition to free early bird shopping on Thursday, we’ll be holding a drawing at the close of our annual business meeting, scheduled for 9:20 PM on Saturday, July 23. Two lucky convention attendees who prepay for their membership, book a room for three nights at our host hotel, and choose to attend our business meeting will receive free memberships to PulpFest 2017. You must provide proof of your stay at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and be present at the drawing to receive your prize.

The Hyatt Regency Columbus is an extremely popular venue for conventions, including the World Fantasy Convention, the highly popular Origins Game Fair, and Matsuricon, the anime convention held in mid-August. That’s just one of many reasons that PulpFest has selected the Hyatt as its host hotel. Click the hotel button below our home page banner to learn more about this great venue.

You can reserve a room at the Hyatt Regency at the special convention rate of $118 per night plus tax, which includes one free parking pass and free Wi-Fi, if you do so by June 30, 2016. Additional cars will be charged at the discounted rate of $10 overnight with in/out privileges. There are two ways to place a reservation. You can book a room online at https://aws.passkey.com/g/51320979 or by clicking the link on the PulpFest home page that reads “Book a Room Now.” You can also call 1-888-421-1442 to book a room by telephone. Please be sure to mention PulpFest 2016 to get the special convention rate. By staying at the Hyatt Regency, you’ll help to ensure the convention’s success. Given its popularity, we urge every member to book a hotel room forPulpFest 2016 as soon as possible. As of June 21, the Hyatt Regency Columbus had only a small number of rooms available for July 21 through July 23.

In the heart of the active Arena District, the Hyatt Regency is just a few minutes’ walk from the trendy Short North Arts District. There are dozens of restaurants in the blocks surrounding the hotel. Ohio State University and various tourist attractions are also easily accessible.

If you have any problems, please write to PulpFest chairman Jack Cullers at jack@pulpfest.com.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning now to attend PulpFest 2016 and join hundreds of pulp fiction fans at the pop-culture center of the universe. You’ll have a FANTASTIC time, especially if you’re planning to stay at the Hyatt Regency Columbus! We look forward to seeing you in July in beautiful, downtown Columbus.

(In PULP ART, published by Gramercy Books in 1997, Robert Lesser writes: “Frank R. Paul’s back covers, such as “Golden City of Titan” . . . are masterpieces of science fiction art. The artist’s training in architecture shows in all his work, but the style is unique. There is a two-dimensional flatness, as if the Italian Renaissance had never introduced perspective. Paul’s paintings border on primitive art; they are charming, and almost childlike in their imagination and sense of wonder.” Paul’s “Golden City of Titan” ran on the back cover of the November 1941 issue of AMAZING STORIESPulpFest 2016 will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of AMAZING — the first continuing science fiction magazine — at this year’s convention.)

(It’s not quite downtown Columbus, Ohio, but Ganymede City sure looks like a hopping place. Frank R. Paul imagined this cityscape on Jupiter’s largest moon for the back cover to the February 1942 issue of AMAZING STORIES. We’ll be celebrating the 90th anniversary of that magazine at PulpFest 2016.)

PulpFest Specials

Jul 29, 2015 by

2015 FlyerIn just over two weeks, PulpFest 2015 will begin its celebration honoring the 125th anniversary of the birth of celebration of H. P. Lovecraft as well as its salutes to WEIRD TALES and the Thrilling Group of pulp magazines. The convention begins on Thursday afternoon, August 13th, at 4 PM. That’s when you’ll have four hours to pick up your registration materials or, if you have yet to register for convention, sign up to become a member. We’ll also have dealers’ room set-up taking place from 4 to 11 PM on Thursday, August 13th. Click our red schedule button to see our complete schedule.

As we did during our 2014 convention, PulpFest will be offering early-bird shopping in the PulpFest dealers’ room on Thursday, August 13th, from 6 PM until 10 PM. To reward loyal attendees who help to defray the convention’s substantial costs by staying three nights at our host hotel – the Hyatt Regency in the heart of Columbus — PulpFest 2015 will be providing free early-bird privileges. Thanks very much for your support.

Unfortunately, the Hyatt has been completely booked for about a month. So although you can no longer take advantage of our free early-bird offer, you can still partake in early shopping. If you prepay for your membership, Thursday night shopping will cost an additional $25 over the regular membership fee. Early-bird shopping privileges will cost $30 if you pay for them at the door. Advance registration will be available through Monday, August 10th. Please click the red registration button on our home page and you’re on your way. You can pay for your membership using the Paypal link that’s located under “Payment Instructions” on our registration page. Only staff, dealers, and early-bird shoppers will be allowed into the dealers’ room during Thursday evening, August 13th. Please realize that due to travel conditions and other contingencies, PulpFest cannot guarantee that each and every registered dealer will be available during our early-bird hours.

But free early-bird shopping isn’t the only way that we’ll be thanking those who stay three nights at the Hyatt Regency. On Saturday, August 15th, PulpFest will be holding a drawing at the close of our annual business meeting for two full membership fee refunds. Two lucky convention attendees who have prepaid for their membership, booked a room for three nights at our host hotel, and have chosen to attend our business meeting will receive full refunds of their membership fees to PulpFest 2015. You must provide proof of your stay at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and be present at the drawing to receive your free membership refund.

Please remember that PulpFest will be sharing downtown Columbus with Matsuricon in August. Therefore, we are urging all of our members to book their hotel rooms for PulpFest 2015 as soon as possible! If you have not yet booked your room for PulpFest 2015, there are still some rooms available at nearby hotels. Please click here and you’ll find a link to a list of hotels to choose from. If you are not from the Columbus area and want to attend PulpFest 2015, we urge you to book your room now and not later. Rooms that are relatively close to PulpFest are disappearing fast during the time frame of our convention. So what are you waiting for? Book a room for three nights and register now for “Summer’s Great Pulp Con.”

(Join us August 13th – 16th at PulpFest 2015 for a celebration of H. P. Lovecraft and WEIRD TALES and a salute to the Thrilling Group of pulp magazines. Our flyer for this year’s convention features Matt Fox’s cover art for the November 1944 issue of WEIRD TALES. The cover story for the issue is August Derleth’s “The Dweller in Darkness,” a story that even S. T. Joshi — one of the author’s fiercest critics — has suggested “. . . is perhaps Derleth’s one relatively successful Mythos tale,” citing the Wisconsin setting and “effective atmosphere of cumulative horror.” Also featured in the issue are stories by Robert Bloch, Hannes Bok, Ray Bradbury, Manly Wade Wellman, and others.)

There May Be Rooms at Other Inns, but . . .

May 28, 2015 by

13th World SF ConventionBack in March, we mentioned that in August, PulpFest will be sharing downtown Columbus with Matsuricon, a gathering of Japanese anime and pop culture enthusiasts. Although many of these fans will be coming for a single day, there will be a good number who will be staying at the Hyatt Regency as well as other hotels in downtown Columbus. At that time, we urged pulp fans to book their rooms as soon as possible. Around the middle of April, we reminded everyone about Matsuricon and once again reminded our members to book their rooms for this year’s PulpFest.

On Friday, June 11th, the Hyatt Regency Columbus informed us that all of their rooms are now booked for the period of August 13th through the 16th. Hotel management is attempting to work with other nearby hotels to locate overflow rooms and will inform PulpFest as to what is available. We want to thank those members who booked with the Hyatt as your stay at our host hotel helps to defray some of the convention’s substantial costs.

Thankfully, many people responded to our previous messages and have already placed their reservations. However, if you are planning to attend PulpFest in August and don’t yet have your room booked, please do so AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. There are certainly other hotels in Columbus, Ohio, but they are also likely to be filling up. So if you have yet to book a room for PulpFest 2015, we suggest that you search for a room at tripadvisor and similar websites as soon as you possibly can.

If you have any problems finding a room, please contact the convention’s chairperson, Jack Cullers, by writing to jack@pulpfest.com. You can also leave a message at the PulpFest phone line at 863-606-8878.

To thank those members who will  be staying three nights at our host hotel in the heart of ColumbusPulpFest is pleased to offer free early-bird privileges. That’s a very significant savings of at least $25! Only staff, dealers, and early-bird shoppers will be allowed into the dealers’ room from 6 to 10 PM on Thursday evening, August 13th. For those members who choose not to stay at the Hyatt, early-bird shopping will cost an additional $25 over the regular prepaid membership fee. Early-bird shopping privileges will cost $30 if paid for at the door.

PulpFest 2015 will also have a full slate of programming on Thursday, beginning at 8 PM. We’ll have presentations on sports pulps; detective and western heroes of the Thrilling Group of pulp magazines; The Shadow; and Street & Smith comics. We’ll also be screening a couple of films inspired by the work of horror master H. P. Lovecraft. Click the schedule button near the right end of our home page banner to learn more about our programming plans.

But free early-bird shopping and great programming isn’t the only reward you can receive by staying three nights at the Hyatt Regency. On Saturday, August 15th, PulpFest will be holding a drawing at the close of our annual business meeting for two full membership fee refunds. Two lucky convention attendees who prepay for their membership, book a room for three nights at our host hotel, and choose to attend our business meeting will receive full refunds of their membership fees to PulpFest 2015. You must provide proof of your stay at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and be present at the drawing to receive your free membership refund.

PulpFest 2015 will take place from August 13th through August 16th. Many thanks to everyone who booked their room early and chose The Hyatt for your trip to Columbus. Remember, your stay at our host hotel helps to defray some of the convention’s substantial costs. Plus, you’ve received a great deal on a room, free early-bird shopping, great programming, and a chance to win a full membership refund to PulpFest 2015. Congratulations on a great deal!

(It’s not quite the Hyatt Regency, nor is it Columbus, Ohio, but Frank R. Paul’s “atomic city” painting served as the cover art for the program book of the 13th World Science Fiction Convention, held in Cleveland, Ohio in 1955.)

Bingo! Win a Free Membership

Apr 17, 2015 by

2015 FlyerAs we did at our 2014 convention, PulpFest will be offering early-bird shopping in the PulpFest dealers’ room on Thursday, August 13th, from 6 PM until 10 PM. For those who prepay for their memberships, it will cost an additional $25 over the regular membership fee. Early-bird shopping privileges will cost $30 if paid for at the door.

But wait! There’s an even better deal for those who want an extra four hours of shopping at PulpFest 2015! To reward loyal attendees who help to defray the convention’s substantial costs by staying three nights at our host hotel–the Hyatt Regency in the heart of ColumbusPulpFest is pleased to offer free early-bird privileges. That’s a very significant savings of at least $25! Only staff, dealers, and early-bird shoppers will be allowed into the dealers’ room during Thursday evening, August 13th. Please realize that due to travel conditions and other contingencies, PulpFest cannot guarantee that each and every registered dealer will be available during our early-bird hours.

But free early-bird shopping isn’t the only way you can save by staying three nights at the Hyatt Regency. Bingo!

Please remember that PulpFest will be sharing downtown Columbus with Matsuricon in August. Therefore, we are urging all of our members to book their hotel rooms for PulpFest 2015 as soon as possible!

The best deal for PulpFest members is to reserve a room at the Hyatt Regency Columbus. Our host hotel is offering a room rate of $116 plus tax per night that includes a complimentary parking pass with in-out privileges and free Wi-Fi. Additional parking passes for people sharing rooms are available for $10 each. You can call 1-888-421-1442 to book a room by telephone. You must register by July 1, 2015 and mention PulpFest to get the special convention rate. Alternately, you can register online by clicking here or the “book a room” button on our home page.

The room rate offered by the Hyatt to PulpFest members is one of the best in the downtown area. Matsuricon members will be paying $123 per night to stay at the Hyatt, plus an additional $12 a day for parking. Dollar-for-dollar, the PulpFest rate at the Hyatt pretty much stifles the competition.

So what are you waiting for? Book a room for three nights and register now for “Summer’s Great Pulp Con.” You’ll get a great deal on a room, free early-bird shopping on Thursday evening, August 13th, from 6 to 10 PM, and a chance to win a full membership refund to PulpFest 2015. It’s a deal you can’t afford to miss!

Dealers Tables Are Going Fast!

Jun 24, 2014 by

Newsstand2014

With only six weeks remaining before the 2014 PulpFest begins, convention chairman Jack Cullers reports that most available exhibit space has already been booked, and that dealers who have not yet registered for the convention should reserve their tables immediately lest they risk being shut out.

Although our huckster room at the Hyatt is quite spacious–almost 16,000 square feet–given the many dealers who have found PulpFest to be a great venue to sell their wares, the space fills up fast.  This is especially true given our generous offer for dealers who stay at the Hyatt Regency Columbus during the convention. They receive one free table for every two that they rent. So our remaining space is shrinking fast.  Wall tables are almost all gone. As of this writing we can still accommodate more exhibitors, but the time to book is now!

Although the focus of PulpFest 2014 will be pulp magazines and related materials, vintage paperbacks, digests, men’s adventure and true crime magazines, first edition hardcovers, science-fiction, detective, Western, and other genre books and magazines, series books, dime novels, original art, Big Little Books, B-movies and serials and related collectibles, old-time-radio shows, and Golden and Silver Age comic books can also be sold.

Dealers interested in selling at PulpFest 2014 should get in touch with Jack as soon as possible. You can reach him via email by writing to jack@pulpfest.com or by regular mail at 1272 Cheatham Way, Bellbrook, OH 45305. Please visit our registration page and take advantage of our downloadable registration form and, if you like, our Paypal Order page to reserve your table space today! Please remember to ask for your free table if you will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and will be renting two or more tables.
