More Lovecraft and a Dum Dum

NecronomiCon 2015PulpFest 2015 won’t be the only convention celebrating the 125th anniversary of the birth of H. P. Lovecraft, the writer whom Stephen King has called, “The twentieth century’s greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale.” Just four days after the close of our conference, the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council, based in Providence, Rhode Island, and several sponsors and collaborators will hold NecronomiCon Providence in the hometown of the author.

NecronomiCon Providence is a many-faceted convention and academic conference exploring the life and works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and fellow creators of weird fiction, past and present, as well as the myriad Lovecraftian authors, artists, and academics who continue to carry the torch. Its theme for this year is a Lovecraft International Homecoming, with guests and attendees joining the convention from all around the world and from all corners of weird fiction, art, and scholarly endeavors. It will take place August 20th through the 23rd. Please visit their website at http://necronomicon-providence.com/enter/ for additional details.

For those pulp and popular culture fans who prefer jungle adventures over cosmic horrors, the 2015 Dum Dum will be held over the same weekend as NecronomiCon Providence. It will take place at the Andrew Memorial Town Hall in Clinton, Connecticut. You’ll be able to meet the author and the illustrator of the first new Tarzan novel in years — Will Murray and Joe DeVito — as well as members of the Burroughs family, the President of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., and his Executive Assistant. The widow of Tarzan actor Denny Miller, Nancy Miller, will also be attending the Dum Dum.

To learn more about the 2015 Dum Dum, please visit http://www.erbzine.com/dumdum/ or write to the convention’s organizer, Peggy Adler, at 5 Liberty Street, Clinton, CT 06413.

And remember, if you have yet to book your room for this year’s convention, please do so without delay. PulpFest will be sharing downtown Columbus with Matsuricon next week. There may still be some rooms available at nearby hotels. Please visit pulpcon.org/2015/06/16872/ and you’ll find a link to a list of hotels to choose from. If you are not from the Columbus area and want to attend PulpFest 2015, we urge you to book your room now and not wait until you arrive. Please book a room for three nights and register now for “Summer’s Great Pulp Con.”
